STRAIGHT FROM NATURE

Skip the perfume aisle. At Wndrmade®, we aren’t just inspired by nature, it’s what we’re made of.

We craft all of our fragrances in-house, using only essential oils and botanical extracts derived directly from plant materials. Our ingredients are consciously sourced from the purest, highest quality, and environmentally responsible providers around the world, blended by hand at our Catskill Mountain hideaway to create truly unique, beautiful, and REAL smelling candles that have all the complexities and curiosities that nature intended.

Here’s a list of all the ingredients we use in our fragrances. Check back often as we expand our offerings:

AMYRIS
Botanical name: Amyris balsamifera
Origin: Dominican Republic

Distilled from a small bushy tropical evergreen tree that grows wild in the Bahoruco Forest of the Dominican Republic. It is in this forest where the environmentally friendly task widely known as ‘cleaning the forest floor’ of only dead, dry wood for distillation helps to prevent fires and gives young, green saplings a better chance to thrive. We use Amyris in our perfumery profiles as a sweet, woody fixative and a compliment to other prominent fragrance notes.

BALSAM FIR
Botanical name: Abies balsamea
Origin: Canada

The balsam of fir needles is a remarkable air purifier, clearing a room of offensive odors and microbes.

BERGAMOT
Botanical name: Citrus aurantium var. bergamia
Origin: Italy

Bergamot oil has many applications in addition to being greatly valued for its calming and balancing properties – its fresh, sweet, citrus aroma is very pleasing and uplifting to the spirit.

BLACK PEPPER
Botanical name: Piper nigrum
Origin: Madagascar

Used in trace amounts to add interest or 'flavor' to other notes in our perfumes.

BLACK SPRUCE
Botanical name: Picea mariana
Origin: Canada

Spruce oils have invigorating aromas, while providing a calming effect on the mind. Black Spruce is also beneficial for upper respiratory issues, as its clear, clean penetrating aroma helps to facilitate easy breathing.

BLUE CYPRESS
Botanical name: Callitris

A grounding, complimentary fragrance that we use to support wood notes and floral notes, with the added benefit of a natural mosquito repellent.

CARDAMOM
Botanical name: Elettaria cardamomum
Origin: Tanzania

Cardamom oil has a very long history of use in food, medicine and perfumery. We use Cardamom as a lively middle note in multiple fragrances.

CEDARWOOD ATLAS, ORGANIC
Botanical name: Cedrus atlantica
Origin: Morocco Atlas Cedarwood

Fortunately, we found a company that works with an essential oil producer who sources cedarwood stumps, trees from clean-up cuts and wood residue (sawdust) from which to distill the essential oil; in addition, they work with their suppliers to evaluate and improve sustainability, tools and practices in all stages of production. Ensuring the sustainability of vulnerable biological species is a very important aspect that we consider when sourcing our oils.

CINNAMON BARK
Botanical name: Cinnamomum zeylanicum
Origin: Sri Lanka

Needs no introduction, we use Cinnamon Bark to add a warm spice note in our natural perfumes.

CISTUS
Botanical name: Cistus ladanifer
Origin: Spain

Part of the Rock Rose family, we use Cistus as a substitute for animalic, leathery, and musk notes in small amounts. We also find that Cistus has a notable "warming" aromatherapy effect in our Patchouli candle.

CLARY SAGE
Botanical name: Salvia sclarea
Origin: USA

Clary Sage has a fresh, bittersweet, almost peppery aroma that we use in many fragrance profiles. It contains Linalyl acetate, a form of linalool, and has been demonstrated in human studies to promote calm and relaxation, particularly for women suffering from PMS. (source)

CLOVE BUD
Botanical name: Eugenia caryophyllata
Origin: Madagascar

Used in small amounts to add richness to our vanilla fragrance. Clove bud can also help clear airborne microbes.

COPAIBA BALSAM
Botanical name: Copaifera officinalis
Origin: Brasil

A sweet and softly woodsy balsamic fragrance fixative, with properties that support respiration and relaxation.

CORIANDER SEED
Botanical name: Coriandrum sativum
Origin: Hungary

Coriander Seed oil contains between 60-87% of the gentle monoterpene alcohol linalool, and we use it as a sustainable alternative to the endangered Rosewood oil, due to the remarkably similar fragrance profile.

FRANKINCENSE
Botanical name: Boswellia carteri
Origin: Somalia

Although it is so beautiful and complex on it's own, we use this wild grown Frankincense essential oil to compliment our Patchouli base, most notably.

GRAPEFRUIT (PINK)
Botanical name: Citrus paradisi
Origin: USA

One of our favorite citrus oils, Pink Grapefruit is lighter and sweeter than expected, while also having the added benefit of nootkatone, a nontoxic sesquiterpene ketone, which is effective in repelling disease-carrying insects. (source)

JASMINE SAMBAC ABSOLUTE
Botanical name: Jasminum sambac
Origin: India

An intense and beautiful floral fragrance and a known aphrodisiac, Jasmine is an exquisite and quintessential component in natural perfumery.

JUNIPER BERRY
Botanical name: Junperus communis
Origin: Nepal

An aroma often recognized as the characteristic scent of gin, Juniper Berry has been said to cleanse the atmosphere of a room.

LAVENDER
Botanical name: Lavandula angustifolia
Origin: France

Aromatically iconic, and widely used commercially in synthetic or adulterated forms. We use a beautiful high elevation lavender from France, where the altitude increases the development of linalyl acetate.

LEMON
Botanical name: Citrus limon
Origin: Italy

A bright and clean citrus top note that can lend some interesting lift to a deep fragrance like our VNLA and PCHL.

MAGNOLIA
Botanical name: Magnolia x alba
Origin: China

A very sweet, floral bouquet. On it's own can be overpowering, but in trace amounts and in just the right blend, this oil adds an amazingly unique perfumery note.

NEROLI
Botanical name: Citrus aurantium
Origin: Tunisia

An absolutely beautiful, fine fragrance fit for royalty, it was the princess of Nerola in Lazio, Italy who made the bitter orange blossom famous as a perfume essence. The blossoms can be gathered by hand for only a few weeks per year.

NEROLINA
Botanical name: Melaleuca quinquenervia ct nerolidol
Origin: Austrailia

This wild grown Nerolina has a fresh, cineolic aroma with a fruity/floral note.

NUTMEG
Botanical name: Myristica fragrans
Origin: India

Used in trace amounts in VNLA to add to the spicy warmth of the fragrance.

PALO SANTO
Botanical name: Bursera graveolens
Origin: Ecuador

The Palo Santo oil we use is distilled in small batches from sustainably harvested wood. The aged, dead wood is gathered from the forest floor on Ecuador's Pacific coast, allowing the production of oil without any harm to the living trees.

PATCHOULI
Botanical name: Pogostemon cablin
Origin: Indonesia

We use this extremely versatile oil in several fragrance bases. It is an excellent fixative and blends very well with other oils, especially florals.

PERU BALSAM
Botanical name: Myroxylon balsamum
Origin: El salvador

The principal areas of trees from which Balsam of Peru oil is produced are mainly along the Balsam Coast where El Salvador meets the Pacific Ocean. In and of itself, Balsam of Peru is a soothing fragrance that has been used in incense and medicinally as far back as Mayan culture.

PETITGRAIN BIGARADE
Botanical name: Citrus aurantium
Origin: Egypt

Petitgrain Bigarade essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, the same tree that produces Neroli from the blossoms. It has a fresh, leafy-green, lightly floral, citrus aroma with light bitter/dry notes and rich, sweet undertones.

SANDALWOOD
Botanical name: Santalum paniculatum
Origin: USA

An exceptional fragrance, and one of the most famous natural fragrances in the world. One of our favorite base notes, true natural sandalwood is rich, very complex, sweet, and warm.

SILVER FIR
Botanical name: Abies alba
Origin: Austria

Also known as White Fir, this oil adds camphorous freshness to our natural perfume blends.

TANGERINE
Botanical name: Citrus reticulata
Origin: USA

A bright and fresh citrus fragrance we use to add a little zesty sweetness at the top note of natural fragrances.

THYME
Botanical name: Thymus vulgaris
Origin: Spain

The Linalool chemotype of thyme essential oil is very typical of the herb, with the soft green and slightly powdery, clean middle note we love in some of our fragrance compositions.

VANILLA
Botanical name: Vanilla planifolia
Origin: Madagascar

Forget baking, forget ice cream. Vanilla is an incredible base for natural perfumes by adding richness, depth, warmth, and spice.

VETIVER
Botanical name: Vetiveria zizanioides
Origin: Haiti

Vetiver has a long history in perfumery and is very well known as the "oil of tranquility." We use this deep, earthy base to ground a few of our natural fragrances in addition to VTVR.
